What is the meaning of PhD?
I recently came across this on the internet.
Jokes apart, PhD stands for Philosophiae Doctor in Latin or Doctor of Philosophy.
It simply means that you are being awarded a degree for having profound knowledge about any subject of choice. And you can apply for a PhD in any field (if the university of your choice has a provision).
Some colleges confer a PhD or the DPhil and you can add the Dr. prefix to your name once you complete your degree.
The candidate usually submits a thesis/ dissertation in a particular format which he thinks is worthy of publication in a peer reviewed journal and such candidates are mostly inclined towards being researchers/scientists/professors and thus PhD gives impetus for more research and advancements in any given field.
In short, PhD rudimentarily means Theory of Knowledge . Therefore receiving a PhD will mean that you are a Doctor of “Theory of Knowledge” in your major. You are an expert and you know all there is to know about what you have studied.
And finally you’ll get this when you graduate
That being said I’m sure you can choose topics like these too 🙂
Hope this helped.
