Nollywood actress and director, Omoni Oboli<\/strong> reveals why she refrains from intervening in her son\u2019s marriage and respecting her daughter-in-law\u2019s independence even if she has concerns.<\/p>\n
During her recent appearance on the Dear Ife<\/em> podcast<\/strong> with Ifedayo Agoro, the mother of three explained her approach to respecting her son and daughter-in-law.<\/p>\n
Oboli revealed that she empathizes with her daughter-in-law<\/strong> by placing herself in her shoes instead of solely relying on her perspective.<\/p>\n
Drawing from her own experiences, she noted that she, too, got married at 21\u2014the same age her daughter-in-law married her son\u2014and was quite strong-headed. Acknowledging her youthful defiance, Oboli understands that her daughter-in-law would likely prefer not to be controlled.<\/p>\n
The seasoned actress also emphasized the importance of sons being able to communicate openly with their mothers on behalf of their wives, reinforcing healthy family boundaries and mutual respect.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s been a few times when my son has come to meet me to say, \u2018Mum, Marelle does not like that\u2019 and I have to catch myself back and say \u2018Oh, I didn\u2019t mean it that way.\u2019 And it\u2019s okay. So, the fact that your child cannot come to you to say \u2018my wife doesn\u2019t like this\u2019, that\u2019s a problem in itself,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>she stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think, first things first, people need to understand and realise that this is now another family. Yes, they are still a part of your family but they now have their own family,\u201d<\/em> she opined.<\/p>\n
