He is an Irish man that singlehandedly demonized the Igbo deity called EKWENSU by translating it as their Bible Satan.
Before the European inversion of IGBO land, Ekwensu is a very revered Igbo deity as a very violent and trickster deity which the Igbos use in tricking and or resisting their adversaries. The Yoruba equivalent of Ekwensu is called Esu.
The British fully believed that Ekwensu is the Chief diety that assisted the revered EKUMEKU warriors to fight and resist them for 31years. Bishop Shanahan therefore played Psychological operation in the minds of ndị ìgbo to reject EKWENSU. This is why he inserted it in the Igbo-translation of their Bible, thereby causing the Igbos to be in eternal enmity with their revered and helpful diety called Ekwensu.
The evil and wicked work of Bishop Shanahan made it very hard for an average Igbo man today to accept that EKWENSU is never Satan.
In the Igbo cosmology, there is nothing like Satan. Every Diety is either god or angel.
